Christmas advert analysis

The first advert I’m analysing is a short 1 minute Boots advert - ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cAhAqgLiIA ) but it begins with Music which is a mix of Christmas music and retro, the retro kicks in once 1 of the woman begin opening a gift, however we don’t get to see what the gift was.

The Story is spoken in song as one of the lyrics are “It’s like a story of love “

I believe the advert is showing us the bonding of family as they get older because the advert reveals that the two women are sisters as their parent begin arguing while they were young.

The rest of the advert shows the audience different moments in the sisters lives and gives the impression that they have been there for each other through the good and bad parts all their lives and that they do everything together.

I believe the advert is passing along the message that family are closest people you know and you should always be there for each other and Christmas is a way to show how much you love your family.

The advert has the hash tag #ShowThemYouKnowThem which indicates that the advert is aimed at family because you should know everything that your siblings like.

The next advert is the BBC One advert - ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PstSiTCk74 )which starts off with a daughter wanting her father to go to her talent show however work gets in his way, this advertising technique is good because it can relate to most family's where the parents need to work constantly.

We then see the daughter showing of what her talent is but her father never seems to pay attention, again because he is working on other daily tasks.

The talent show pamphlet falling on the ground acts as a reminder for both the father and the audience as to why the daughter is angry and also acts as a metaphor for balancing what's really important in your life.

When the father reveals himself in the crowd in order for the daughter to regain her confidence and begins dancing with her, this shows that he was really paying attention to her all along and that she is actually the most important thing in his life, this makes the audience feel really happy and maybe even consider if they pay enough attention to their kids.

The last Christmas advert that I will be analysing will be the Sainsbury's advert - ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU50dLLy7Cw ) which acts as a soft hearted music video which goes through the many different ways people do on Christmas day and they've used videos submitted by the public which shows that they're trying to connect to reach out to their customers at Christmas!

They continue to try and relate to the audience by singing about how bad Brussels sprouts are because they are known to be the most unpopular Christmas vegetable.

The advert shows people from different age groups, social groups and ethnic groups all singing together in order to show that Christmas unites people together. They also keep the video black and white when the people are singing, I believe this is in order to convey that everybody is united a Christmas and ethnicity and race doesn't matter.
