Catfish

Synopsis- The documentary "Catfish" follows Nev Shulman on his 1 year journey as he talks to a family over social media and even begins a long distance relationship with a girl called Megan, or so he thinks.
He receives messages from a mother named Angela who introduces Nev to her daughter Abby who she claims paints Nev's photographs that he has taken. Over a few months, Nev exchanges messages with who he thinks is a girl called Megan who is the 19 year old daughter of Angela, Nev becomes suspicious of being lied to when Megan sends songs that she claims she had sung however Nev finds the exact same songs online. Hesitant, Nev and his friends decide to go to Michigan to meet Angela, Abby and Megan to confirm his suspicions.

Review- The movie was an interesting experience which will get people to think twice before trusting somebody they don't personally know over social media, the whole movie allows the audience to connect with Nev whereas some may be able to relate to him because cat fishing is common now with the rise in internet use over the last few years. The movie kept me intrigued throughout with every passing moment and even the reveal of Megan not being a real 19 year old was emotional as Angela tells her story and how she was able to do something so horrible however you feel for both sides because Nev has been cat fished and feels embarrassed about it, but Angela feels really bad and explains why she did it.

Style- I believe the documentary was Observational as it observes Nev's friendships and relationships with a family throughout a whole year and they include moments which include private and embarrassing conversations exchanged between Nev and Megan and doesn't seem to manipulate anything throughout the whole documentary, everything feels authentic as if it was happening in that moment. The documentary has a mix of a participatory style too because you hear the directors voice multiple times throughout the movie.

Intro conversation significance- The significance it has with the way the documentary ends is that at the end,

If they would have involved a specific level of planning, I think the documentary wouldn't have been as impactful or story driven because everything felt real and not scripted or manipulated.
