( Interview techniques )
There are different interview techniques that can be used in documentary's, these include the most common "Open and closed" questions. Closed questions are basic Yes and No questions while open questions allow the interviewee to elaborate and give more detail on a specific subject.
I used exclusively open questions in my interview because I felt that closed questions couldn't do the interview justice because when it comes to health issues and home schooling, in order for the audience to understand the situation, there needs to be as much detail as possible.
Louis Theroux's interviews are mostly Participatory ( The interviewer establishes a connection with the interviewee and actively engages in the situation ) for example, he tries to get to know the personality of his subject in order for them to feel comfortable and open up about more of their personal life and their motives behind their view points, he does not force anything on to the subject however as he is very calm and relaxed which in turn allows the subject to feel less awkward and tense.
In my Documentary, a lot of the "connecting with the subject" was scarce because I'm already good friends with the interviewees and they were completely comfortable with me asking open questions about their health and personal life, however I wish there were some interactions that could establish this to the audience as I feel the interview seemed awkward.
